The Sofa Saga

So let me just tell you about my latest living room saga, or family room; however, you want to call it. I have a very long room that is both the formal living room and the family room. I have rearranged this room 4 times but that is not all that has happened in this space. It has been painted 3 times in the last 3 weeks because I could not decide on a color. Let me tell you, postpartum after baby really worked over my designer brain! But hey, it’s working again…or so I think!

Yesterday, after my daughter (Ella) who is six and I rearranged the living room yet again, I got to thinking. Maybe it’s the sofa? I would love one of those slipcovered sofas from Pottery Barn, but right now, it’s just not in the budget, so I will have to work with the two sofas I have. One is 13 years old. That is right, it is 13 years old. It has had everything from yogurt, to bodily fluids, to cracker crumbs and everything else in between. Amazing what Oxi Clean can do for your furniture! The other, is a cheap sofa, I know the word inexpensive sounds better, but let’s face it, the sofa was CHEAP! It was all I could afford at the time, because I can’t stand an empty space when we moved into this house. That was 4 years ago. It looks okay in the space.

Sometimes you just have to work with what you have, and while it may not be perfect, No house is, unless it’s one that doesn’t have residents, I will love what I have and work with it. So here is what we have done so far. (Ella and me) She loves to rearrange better then I do. We’re not quite finished, but stay tuned for the next turn of events. There is going to be a built in on the other side of the fireplace. That was my birthday present from my sweet husband. The man is very patient and understanding with his ADD decorating wife and also, apparently the six year old is going to be the same way!

If you can’t afford to buy a new sofa, then buy several pillows in various colors and patterns. My favorite places for pillows are Marshalls, Homegoods and TJMaxx. Toss and throw and voila, looks like a new piece and the color livens up the space!

Happy Decorating!
